Sgraffito is a form of surface design that I like to use on some of my pottery where underglaze is painted onto the leather-hard clay and then an image is carved out using a special carving tool. Sometimes I will incorporate phrases and song lyrics into these designs alongside images of creatures, plants, and feminine forms to convey a particular feeling on the piece.
